Welcome to Baja California Sur

On behalf of the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California Sur, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you.  It is truly an honor to be chosen as your travel destination and host while you explore Baja California Sur, which boasts some of the greatest tourist attractions in the country.  Here you will find an infinite number of activities for your enjoyment and relaxation: warm beaches, fascinating historic sites, and a range of hotels and restaurants of the highest quality.

Baja California Sur offers an abundance of recreational opportunities. Just a few of the water sports available to visitors are sport fishing, scuba diving, surfing and kayaking.  Those who prefer to spend their time on dry land can enjoy a range of other sporting activities, such as golf and tennis.

The landscape is characterized by a large variety of ecosystems, which support unique flora and fauna of outstanding beauty.  The scenery in Baja California Sur is spectacular, combining desert plains, mountain ranges and stunning beaches.

The region has a rich historic and cultural patrimony which, together with its natural treasures, makes it a diverse and fascinating tourist destination.  The following pages provide information on the five municipalities of Baja California Sur, as well as a useful directory of service providers, transportation routes, recreational activities and interesting facts to enhance your trip.

We are immensely proud of our land, and the content of the 2006 Baja California Sur Tourist Guide is an invitation to come and visit us.  I am sure that after reading these pages, you will wish to return time and time again.

Once again, welcome to Baja California Sur and we hope you enjoy your stay.

LIC. ALBERTO TREVIÑO ANGULO
