The
historic town of Loreto, where the Jesuit
missionary Juan Maria de Salvatierra founded
the first mission of the California’s, Nuestra
Señora de Loreto. Stone-paved streets,
colonial architecture, the mission and the Mission
Museum all turn a drive to Loreto into a worthwhile
historical and cultural experience.
The area surrounding Loreto
is filled with beautiful sites, among them the
San Javier Mission, which is tucked away in the
Gigantic Sierra. Opposite Loreto Bay are the
islands of Coronado, Carmen, Danzantes and Catalana.
These islands are a paradise for people who like
sport fishing, diving, ecotourism or soaking up
the sun on quiet beaches
