ACTIVITIES
San Juanico
A drive of 125 miles north of
Ciudad Constitución will take you to the
spectacular San Juanico Bay, a favorite spot for
serious surfers who come in both summer and winter
to ride some of the world’s longest waves.
The turn-off is on the Ciudad Insurgentes-La Purísima
Transpeninsular Highway, 98 miles north of Ciudad
Constitución; from that point, a 28 mile
dirt road leads to San Juanico.
A tiny fishing community with
just 500 inhabitants, San Juanico has only in
the last few years been discovered by tourists,
drawn to the area simply to relax or in search
of adventure in the marvelous natural surroundings.
Just one kilometer (about half a mile) away is
a sea lion refuge, a great place to observe these
fascinating marine mammals.
The town’s restaurants
serve delicious local seafood including lobster
and abalone. Although there are no hotels, visitor
can camp out or rent a space at the trailer park,
which also has a gas station and small convenience
store, as well as a hybrid wind energy plant that
supplies electricity to the entire community. |
