Los Cabos : About City

CABO DEL ESTE

The East Cape is a beautiful tourist corridor of
beaches, sierras, quays, hotels, tourist services, private villas and vacation homes, stretching the length of Las Palmas Bay. Access to the East Cape is either by road or air, in the latter case through the landing strip at Los Barriles or the airport at San José del cabo. Punta Pescadero is at the northern tip of the cape; Cabo Pulmo and Los Frailes are at the southern extremity, slightly below the Tropic of Cancer.

Sport fishing as the main attraction at the East Cape, and the region has gained international fame as the World Marlin Capital. The sport fishing fleet consists of 200 boats that can be booked by visitors in pursuit of the region’s most sought- after species: marlin, dorado, roosterfish, swordfish and sailfish, with the high season running from May to October.

The fabulous resort hotels stretching along the shore offer complete services for fishermen, with prices varying according to the season. The latest novelty in the region is to fish while kayaking; this is just one more attraction in this fascinating corner of the Sea of Cortés.

Windsurfing, diving, kite-skiing, kayaking, mountain-biking, horseback riding, hiking and bird and plant observation are several of the activities available to visitors at the beaches of Los Barriles, Buena Vista, Cabo Pulmo, Los Frailes, La Rivera and Punta Colorada, all located within the tourist corridor.

Cabo Pulmo Marine Park

Cabo Pulmo Marine Park is a protected Natural Area and site of the only corral reef that exists in this region of the Pacific, off the coast of North America. It is a year-round paradise for both divers and snorkelers with excellent visibility and temperate water assuring that divers will be able to catch sight of multicolored fish, deep sea species and mammals that inhabit the Sea of Cortez including whale sharks, hammerheads, dolphins, manta rays, tortoises, humpbacked whales and all of the species of fish so avidly sought by sport fishermen.

There are 17 diving sights including the deep reef, the shoal and an underwater canyon. Novices and expert divers can enjoy a marvelous underwater experience in waters whose visibility ranges from 60 to 100 feet, with temperatures from 65° to 80° F.

In the town also called Cabo Pulmo, there are small hotels, ecotourism cabins, restaurants and numerous certified instructors and outfitters who can provide you with the right equipment and all the help you’ll need to get the most out of the experience.
