CABO
DEL ESTE
The East Cape is a beautiful tourist corridor
of beaches,
sierras, quays, hotels, tourist services, private
villas and vacation homes,
stretching the length of Las Palmas Bay. Access
to the East Cape is either by road or air, in
the latter case through the landing strip at Los
Barriles or the airport at San José del
cabo. Punta Pescadero is at the northern tip of
the cape; Cabo Pulmo and Los Frailes are at the
southern extremity, slightly below the Tropic
of Cancer.
Sport fishing as the main attraction
at the East Cape, and the region has gained international
fame as the World Marlin Capital. The sport fishing
fleet consists of 200 boats that can be booked
by visitors in pursuit of the region’s most
sought- after species: marlin, dorado, roosterfish,
swordfish and sailfish, with the high season running
from May to October.
The fabulous resort hotels stretching
along the shore offer complete services for fishermen,
with prices varying according to the season. The
latest novelty in the region is to fish while
kayaking; this is just one more attraction in
this fascinating corner of the Sea of Cortés.
Windsurfing, diving, kite-skiing,
kayaking, mountain-biking, horseback riding, hiking
and bird and plant observation are several of
the activities available to visitors at the beaches
of Los Barriles, Buena Vista, Cabo Pulmo, Los
Frailes, La Rivera and Punta Colorada, all located
within the tourist corridor.
